Interior Design and Furniture Design
Interior design is the science and art of improving the interior of a particular building to make it more aesthetically pleasing to the people who are using the room, as well as for the people who own the property. An interior decorator is someone who designs, plans, coordinates, and oversees these improvement projects. They spend their time coming up with ideas that satisfy the people who will be using the room, while still being functional for everyday use. This person needs to keep in mind what kind of mood the room is supposed to project, and also what type of furniture would be the best choice for that particular mood. Aesthetics can be very important, but functionality is also very important when it comes to designing a room.
There are many different kinds of interior designers. Some specialize in residential work, while others work in commercial settings. Residential interior designers mainly deal with creating spaces for sleeping, as well as spaces for relaxing and entertaining. Commercial interior designers mostly deal with spaces for office work, because business establishments often have spaces for relaxation and entertainment.
An aesthetic designer focuses on how a space looks rather than what it is made out of. The designer works very closely with the clients to create a space that meets the client’s needs and expectations, while at the same time providing the best quality products available for that particular setting. An aesthetic designer might work in the building itself or may simply work for a firm that creates spaces exclusively for aesthetic reasons. Aesthetics can also include decorating kitchens, dining rooms, or recreational areas for people, all of which use interior design elements.
Environmental design is an aspect of the discipline of interior design that has to do with the surroundings of the spaces that are being designed. The purpose of this type of interior design is to create spaces that are safe and comfortable, but which also encourage the proper functioning of the natural environment that surrounds them. In doing so, environmental design prevents damage to the environment, while also promoting the efficiency of the spaces that are being used. The environment may be controlled through various methods, such as through effective heating and cooling systems, building materials that reflect heat and light in such a way as to reduce energy consumption, and the elimination of sources of pollution. An environmental designer will often collaborate with a landscape architect to create spaces which are environmentally friendly.
Decorative arts incorporate many different kinds of art forms, including painting, architecture, jewelry, pottery, fauvism, furniture and fabric art. These decorative arts are usually employed to provide a visual interest in spaces, as well as to make those spaces more usable and attractive. They can also serve as a basis for interior design, as they can be used to bring together different kinds of elements and to establish new themes or even designs within the spaces that are being decorated. Interior decorating is a broad field of specialization and will vary depending on the needs and preferences of the person doing the decorating.
The fields of interior design and furniture design overlap somewhat, although often they are treated as separate disciplines. Both styles can contribute greatly to the overall success of any home. Furniture design and interior design can both have a large impact on the overall design theme of an area and can play a large part in helping visitors to feel at home. Interior designers often work with architects to develop concepts and designs for new homes and commercial buildings, whereas industrial designers usually work with concrete builders. There is a lot of room for cross-functional activity within these two highly contrasting disciplines.
